We were at the woods hole oceanographic institute we were learning about what technology that they used and what it was like to be a marine biologist. She also worked very hard and she had studied zoology and marine life. Kristen talked how she was able to take pictures of the sea floor using a special camera that took most of the pictures at the depth of 1.4 meters. She also talked about how much she loved marine life and how she knew that she wanted to be a marine biologist. Even when she was little she loved it. And she also said that this is not a job for people who wanted money for an easy job. She also had to write papers that have taken years to produce. She had worked very hard to sort out tons of animal species on a boat for 4 hours and she ended up not finding anything new. It's all about keeping a good attitude and keep trying.

We started this afternoon off with a short 4D movie about dinosaurs, witch was more creative. After that we had about 30 minutes before we had to go to the lab were we learned about how Mystic Aquarium trains their animals to do tricks. They also teach them how to position themselves that then make it easier for them to perform medical examination and tests. When animals know how to lay in a certain position it makes taking blood easier for both the veterans and the animals because in the wild they have to put the animal in a cage and confine them so they don’t move so they then can take blood. But if the animal is trained how to lay in that position then it is much easier for both the animal and the veterinarians. We then learned about how marine biologist can determine how global warming can affect an animal's immune system and how they defend themselves from diseases. Lastly we learned about DNA how to separate it. We then did a lab on separating DNA and used technology that we would not have access to in our classrooms.
Today, we visited the Mystic Aquarium. The outdoor beluga exhibit was awesome, and the sea lion show was exciting and interactive. Charlotte the sea turtle was empowering because she got through her injury and can swim with the help of a buoyancy aid on her shell. An interesting fish I saw was the paddlefish, it looked like a mini basking shark. Even though it’s an aquarium, there was an exhibit about dinosaurs and one about frogs as well. I saw the fattest frog I have ever seen! It was wider than it is long.
